Pierre Weber (Alsace)
Pinot Noir • 2021

While all the 2021s from Pierre Weber are an exceptional feat of winemaking in the face of adversity, the Pinot Noir is perhaps the most approachable in its youth, with a certain softness and broadness to the palate, relaxing the otherwise lean acidity structure of the cold, concentrated vintage. With about 50% of the fruit coming from Pierre’s grand cru Eichberg parcel and the remaining fruit coming from the 300-400m elevation sloped sites in Husseren-les-Chateaux, the wine underwent a 2-week millefeuille-style maceration in fibreglass tank before pressing and 9-month elevage in barrel. The trademark Eichberg minerality comes through as a central feature of the wine, with its edges rounded out with a gently smoky, meaty character that renders it quite moreish, even in its infancy.
